Yesterday was my birthday, and I made the stupid, drunken decision of watching SYTYCD in its entirety after getting home at 11:45pm from the karaoke bar.

So I’m paying for it now.

Anyway, maybe it was just the alcohol, but I thought everyone was really good. I didn’t know who to vote for, so I just went to sleep. That’s how I deal with most of my problems.

The Girls:

They gave Lauren a slinky Broadway(?) routine last night, which I thought she really nailed. However, the judges were trying to tell her she wasn’t “fluid” and “feminine” enough? I don’t know. I didn’t see it. Nigel, a man of my own heart, thinks everything should be sexier. I guess I can’t argue. A rare salsa routine went to Melinda. Initially, I thought she was surprisingly good. Then when they did a playback at the end of the show I reconsidered. It must be tough to dance with Pasha though. Everyone else looks like a pachyderm in comparison. Ashley got another Contemporary routine from a first-time choreographer named Dee (like that guy who won the slam dunk contest by dunking with his arm over his eyes in the 90s). OK. We all know she’s good at Contemporary. With any luck, she’ll get something else next week. Hip hop would test her. That said, Dee’s piece of choreography was sick. I hope we see more of him.

The Guys:

Good God, Alex Wong. That’s the second time you blew the judges minds. I believe in you, man. I had been wondering if, with so many guys left, they were going to try something same-sex. I’m glad they did, and I’m always happy to see Twitch. Billy, Robert, and Kent all did their thing. They’re just consistently good and therefore kind of unremarkable. I think Robert is a judge favorite. Always the same story with those guys: “technically perfect, but you have to dominate the lady.” The same sort of annoying story is also emerging with Jose: “technically unsound but we just love you anyway.”

Dave Scott + Adechike = awesome. I usually don’t like Dave Scott, but this one was really good.

Solos: Adechike is a monster when it comes to solos. Most everyone left is, really. Alex. Billy. Robert. Jose. Lauren. They’re all awesome soloists. I guess Kent seems a little frantic. Melinda…I don’t know, I’m not feeling it with the tapping. Looks awkward.

Picks to leave: Melinda, who I have put here every time. Billy and Lauren might also be in trouble, but I don’t think the judges would let them leave yet. I also think they’ll avoid cutting another female.
